CUNDIYÓ

Santuario de Chimayo

The tiny village of Cundiyó was formally established in 1743 by the Santo Domingo de Cundiyó grant from the Spanish governor, Gaspar Dominguez de Mendoza, at the confluence of the Rio Quemado and Rio Frijoles.

Cundiyó lies between Chimayó and Córdova on a small road that winds through the houses perched on the mountain slopes. Many of its inhabitants still practice farming and ranching on the fertile lands along the two rivers, although many also hold jobs in nearby cities.
